Roots of Spagyrics

The term spagyrics was coined by Paracelsus, the great medieval physician, when he became involved in the seeking, still disordered conditions of remedy preparation in his time and separated them from alchemy. His statement, handed down over the centuries, says: “So learn alchemy, also called spagyria, which teaches to separate the wrong from the right!”

Even the word formation, derived from the Greek words spao = separate and ageiro = unite shows that spagyrics triggers the release of the active principle of plants from their skeleton substance.

But he also provided another reference which we are only today beginning to grasp by declaring: “What we see is not the remedy but the body in which it lies, because the arcana, the healing powers of the elements, are invisible!”

This is where his teachings on the function of spagyrics originated which manifest themselves in the following sentence: “Solve et coagula et habebis magisterium”. Separate and unite and you will gain the hidden healing power.

According to the Paracelsian requirements, spagyric remedies always must be produced by following the four steps below.

1. Separation (Separatio)
Done by putrefaction or fermentation
2. Purification (Purificatio)
Done by distillation or filtration
3. Incineration (Calcificatio)
Done by incinerating the plant body to gain the plant-specific minerals
4. Unification (Conjugatio)
Of fermentation liquid and minerals to form wholeness

PEKANA has modernized these prescribed basic steps and adapted them to the requirements posed by high-quality and GMP-compliant production.
